Cocktail Talk: Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

I actually know this quote from the Burton-Taylor movie and not the book (though perhaps it’s in there too? Who’s literary enough to answer that question? Or sober enough, for that matter?), but since I have a couple pals quitting, or attempting to quit, or playing at quitting, smoking right now, it certainly seemed appropriate. And maybe will spur them to finally give up the stinky sticks. And even beyond that, it’s such a darn fine quote:

Now, I will hold your hand when it’s dark and you’re afraid of the boogeyman and I will tote your gin bottles out after midnight so no one can see but I will not light your cigarette. And that, as they say, is that.

–George (Richard Burton), in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

I kind of wish that I could sit around in your brain when these things surface. Another GREAT quote you’re sharing with us. What are you recommending for the Chinese New Year?

Weirdly, I kind of wish that too–at least then you’d be in Seattle and able to hang out with us Seattle weirdoes more often. Okay, Chinese New Year? That’s an interesting one (I hadn’t even remembered it was this Sunday, but I’m getting old kiddo, my memory ain’t so good anymore). Is it really bad form if I suggest the Oriental? I love it so. It’s in GS, but the recipe is 1-1/2 oz rye, 3/4 oz sweet vermouth, 3/4 ounce orange curacao, and 1/2 oz lime juice, shaken and strained. There’s also a video of me making it on the media page on this site. If not that, how about the Mahjong Cocktail (a bit strong though), which is 2 oz gin, 1/2 oz white rum, 1/2 oz Cointreau with a lemon twist (also shaken and stirred). Either of those catch your fancy?

My God, I DO need to get to Seattle. O, the good times we would all have! I’m not sure which to try, but I have a sneaky feeling that I will let my LQ cabinet dictate! Maybe I will sneak to Seattle in late Spring and then toodle down to Oregon to see Kate & Matt.
